Tips for new players

  • What does this customer want?
    • If none of the effects you've discovered seem to fit the customer's request, you may not have found the right one yet. Check the Alchemist's Path to see what effects the game thinks you should be searching for next, and try exploring the map! Here's my tip when searching for new effects: Keep in mind that the map is designed so that the effects you'll need early on are closer to the center of the map, so always explore the closest bits first!
  • How do you make a potion with 2 or more effects?
    • Use the bellows to heat the potion on the effect icon on the map, and then continue adding ingredients to get to the second effect. Then just use the bellows again!
  • A customer asked me for a potion with multiple effects but was unhappy with the multi-effect potion that I gave them. What gives?
    • When making a potion with multiple effects for a customer, you have to account for the compatibility of the effects. The compatibility mechanics are difficult to memorize, so the best way to be sure you don't accidentally make something undesirable is to use this table here. First, find the primary effect that the customer is requesting on the left side of the sheet, then read across horizontally to see which additional effects are compatible. Note that the table is NOT symmetrical. e.g. You can include❄️ in a request for ❤️, but you CAN'T include ❤️ in a request for❄️.
    • However, if you don't want to have to look at that table every time, here's a basic rule of thumb that can help figure out what might be compatible: Keep beneficial effects separate from harmful effects. If someone is asking for a potion to drink themself (or for someone they care about), don't include any effects that could ever inflict damage (elemental effects, slowness, etc). If someone is asking for a potion to throw at enemies, don't include any effects that could ever help the target (protection effects, invisibility, etc).
  • What do the swirls on the map do?
    • When you pump the bellows, whirlpools will spin around. If your potion marker touches a whirlpool while it's spinning, your potion will get carried along with the whirlpool.
    • If your potion marker reaches the center of a spinning whirlpool, teleportation occurs! Each whirlpool has its own teleportation point, which will be permanently revealed once you've used it.
  • Do I have to match the order of the effects as listed in legendary recipes?
    • Nope, the order is irrelevant as long as you have all the required effects at the right strength.
  • How do I start the Alchemy Machine? And how do I get more parts for it?
    • To start the Alchemy Machine you need to fill it with potions and pull the lever on the central chamber. If the potions in the machine constitute a valid recipe, the lever will blink. To get more parts of the Alchemy Machine, you need to buy them from the mage merchant. He will bring them for sale after a while if you have the previous part and have completed enough objectives in The Alchemist's Path.
  • How do you make a tier 3 potion?
    • The closer your potion marker is to the center of the effect on the map, the stronger it will be!
  • How do you make a tier 3 potion if the effect on the map is rotated?
    • If you don't know how to do that yet, then you don't need to do it yet! Keep following the goals in the Alchemist's Path, and it should become clear in time.
