SpeedRunners 2 FAQ
SpeedRunners 2 – Frequently Asked Questions
- Will the game be an Early Access title or a full-game release? It will launch on Steam in Early Access in 2025 and receive regular updates with new content and improvements based on player feedback. Version 1.0 and console releases are planned for 2026. We chose Early Access to maximize community involvement and create the exact follow-up players want to see.
- I didn’t see these in the Announcement Trailer—are slope-jumping and other advanced techniques possible in the sequel? Absolutely! The trailer footage was captured by casual players, but one of our main goals is to preserve all the original techniques in the new engine. We’re aiming to make the sequel just as deep, mechanics-wise, as the original game.
- Will Falcon (or any other original characters) make a comeback? Totally! Falcon is returning, along with Cosmo, Buckshot, and other OG characters. We actually plan to bring back most of the main roster. There will be new characters too! Be sure to follow us on Steam and social media, and join our Discord community to stay updated.
- Will the old maps make a comeback? Some old maps will be included at launch, and we’re planning to add more through regular Early Access updates. The full list is still being determined.
- Okay, and are the YouTuber playable characters from the first game coming back? Never say never! Two of the old packs won’t return exactly as they were, but we’re definitely planning some exciting new crossovers with other franchises. Keep an eye on our announcements!
- How much will the game cost when it enters Early Access? The price hasn’t been determined yet. We’ll announce it closer to launch—stay tuned for updates!
- How frequently do you plan on releasing updates? We’re aiming for a cadence of every 1–2 months. Occasional patches with bug fixes may be released more frequently, depending on the situation.
- Is there a development roadmap I can check out? The roadmap will be available when Early Access launches later this year. You’ll be able to see our immediate and long-term plans for SpeedRunners 2.
- Will there be a single-player mode? At launch, you’ll be able to play with bots to practice and improve your running skills. A story mode is planned to be added during Early Access.
- Will there be cross-play between PC and consoles? This is something we’re definitely considering, but we can’t confirm it just yet.
- Will there be mod support or a map editor? That’s something we’d really love to implement—after all, it’s hard to imagine a SpeedRunners game without Steam Workshop support. However, there won’t be a map editor at the Early Access launch. Mod support is more likely to arrive later down the line.
- What about Steam achievements? The game will feature achievements upon release.
- Will the original dev studio participate in the sequel’s development? The DoubleDutch team is already involved! They’re providing advice and feedback to Fair Play Labs, the developers of the sequel. DoubleDutch is also helping out with marketing to some extent.
- Will there be any AI-generated assets used in SpeedRunners 2? Nope! Everything—from art to code to music—is 100% created by humans. We believe that’s the only way to make games.
- Wait, are you going to sunset the first SpeedRunners?! Absolutely not! The first game will remain available, and the servers will stay open. Plus, the awesome SpeedRunners 1 community continues to host regular competitive events like tournaments.
